Description
Ceramic nest eggs can be used for nest box training, egg pecking deterrent and broody hen test. Nest box training – place 1 or more ceramic eggs inside the nest box or boxes where hens will lay eggs. This will provide a visual cue that most hens respond to. Egg pecking deterrent – Place at least 2-3 ceramic eggs in the nest boxes where hens are pecking, breaking and eating eggs. Be sure to remove any real eggs as quickly as possible. Once the hungry hen pecks repeatedly at the hard ceramic egg, she will eventually lose interest and stop. Broody hen test – Place 3-6 ceramic eggs in a nest box to see which hen is willing to set on them for most of the day. This action will be a good indication of a broody hen that fertile eggs can be placed under for hatching.
